There is no need to formulate new law for closing evening courses in the c

ountry’s public universities, said PM Sheikh Hasina.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told Jatiya Sangsad that the authorities of universities and the University Grant Commission (UGC) can take necessary steps in this matter.

The leader of the house came up with this statement at the parliament while

replying to a supplementary question from Mujibul Haque Chunnu, an opposition lawmaker from Kishoreganj-3 and also Co-Chairman of Jatiya Party.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told Jatiya Sangsad that she did not see any point in keeping quota for English medium students at public universities, including BUET.

The premier came up with this observation while responding to a supplementary

uestion from BNP’s Chapainawabganj-3 MP Harun-ur Rashid Harun during the PM’s question-answer session.

In the supplementary question, Harun said that a couple of years ago, the High Court gave a direction to preserve five per cent of the total seats at BUET and other public universities for English medium students.
