Special Correspondent :  By writing against drugs, terrorism, irregularities and corruption, journalist Abul Kalam Azad has become an eyesore for miscreants.

Not only that, he has been the victim of numerous terrorist attacks by terrorists and corrupt people, and has been kidnapped several times. It can be said that he has come back from the door of death again and again. Various false and conspiracy cases have also been framed against him to prevent him from writing. Finally, journalist AK Azad took refuge in America to save his life.

Even after going to America, this journalist is being threatened with public death by terrorists. Recently, a drug dealer named Bahadur Chowdhury and an identified terrorist posted a video message on Facebook Abul Kalam threatened to kill Azad.

In the video, the person named Bahadur Chowdhury can be heard saying that if someone hands journalist Abul Kalam Azad over to him, he will be given a cash reward of two lakh taka, saying that he shows two bundles of Taka.

On 16/11/2023, a new false case has been filed against him in the cyber tribunal court of Dhaka, whose number is 568/23. The plaintiff in the case is under Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola, Pakhiya UP chairman Alauddin Sardar’s son Emon Hossain Rohan. Sections given in the case are respectively: CSA- 23(2), 22(2), 25(2), 29/31(2).

 

Media workers from different parts of the country have condemned and protested about the false case.

Journalist Abul Kalam Azad has been writing in various newspapers of the country for a long time, he is currently the founding president of SAARC Journalist Forum Bangladesh Chapter, and was responsible for organizing secretary and general secretary of Bangladesh Mofswal Journalist Forum for two terms. The last daily was the acting editor of Ajker Alokit Sakal newspaper. He currently resides in the United States.

It is known that journalist Azad was kidnapped for the first time on January 31 at 11 pm from Gulshan That night, on his way home after celebrating birthday organized by his journalist friends, he was taken into a microbus and blindfolded and tortured, and an unidentified person took him to an abandoned building and wrapped him in a boot, breaking his left leg. The terrorist’s comment was that he left the country forever, leaving the profession of journalism. At that time, he was admitted to the hospital with the help of passers-by and went home with first aid Because even the hospital was not safe for him then.

Shortly after this incident, on 14 May 2019 (in the month of Ramadan) at 12:00 PM, Journalist Azad was ambushed by 5/6 armed terrorists, including DJ Anik, Jewel and Mahbub, identified terrorists of Dhaka, in front of his residence at 244, North Badda (GM Bari) Satarkul Road in the capital. At that time, the terrorists first broke the building’s CCTV camera and attacked him with the intention of killing him so that there would be no evidence. When the security guard Milan (45) in charge of the building came forward to rescue him, the terrorists hit him with the butt of a pistol and made him bleed.

At that time, another journalist Nazma Sultana Neela, a resident of the building, along with some people took the bloodied journalist Azad and the security guard Milan to the hospital.

Journalist Nazma Sultana Neela, an eyewitness to the incident, said that Anik is an identified terrorist, extortionist, drug and weapons dealer. Azad posted some pictures of his misdeeds on Facebook, thus publicly Azad was tortured to death in broad daylight. If we did not arrive on time, He might have been killed that day.

At that time, the matter was widely discussed in different media including social media. When the case was filed at Badda police station, the then OC of the police station Abdul Jalil refused to take the case in the evening under the pressure of influential people, delaying the day.

When the Badda police station was contacted about the matter, the police station authorities refused to comment.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at 11 a.m., Nabil, son of Upazila Manika Upazila Chairman Jasim Haider, publicly tortured journalist Sagar Chowdhury for publishing the news of Chaul Churi in front of the Rajmoney Cinema Hall in Borhanuddin Upazila Sadar, Bhola.
Journalist Azad expressed concern over the incident and protested, on the orders of Ali Azam Mukul, Member of Parliament for Bhola 2, a fake news lead was carried out in the daily newspaper Sonoyer Alo for a huge amount of money to humiliate Azad socially. After it was published, numerous media outlets across the country published news condemning it and the country’s journalists held protest programs and human chains.

 

Daily Ajker Alokit Sakaal published the news of the corruption of UP Chairman Iftarul Hasan Swapan, the nephew of former minister Tofail Ahmed, without finding journalist Azad, the newspaper’s reporter Faridul Islam and Daud Ibrahim were kidnapped from bhola on 4/8/2021 by the said UP chairman. Iftarul Hasan Swapan his brothers Kamrul Hasan Milan and Nazmul Hasan Bachchu. The two journalists were jailed for almost two months after brutally torturing them throughout the day and filing a false extortion case in the evening.

To save his life due to the fear of terrorists, journalist Azad went into hiding in different parts of the country and finally migrated to America.
